Well the fact that Nike can get away with saying that they are not responsible for the factory conditions overseas is ludicrous. It makes me think that Nike does not really care about their image as long as they are making money. I know that if my name was on the products made by the overseas factories, I would try to make the conditions a lot better. Yet, I can’t say that everything is all bad. I mean, the factories to give poorer nations job opportunities, regardless of the working conditions.
I have never liked Nike. It is not because of the sweatshops, it is because the products that I have had are of very poor quality and yet they cost a fortune. I didn’t really become aware of the sweatshop situation until about two years ago. It goes without saying that this didn’t help improve my opinion of the company. But it just makes me glad that I live here in America. Glad that I don’t have to worry about being forced to work.
People in America don’t know how good they have it. They complain about their minimum wage job and complain that they need to find a better one. These complaints usually go without results. I have a McJob. No I don’t work for McDonalds but I work for minimum wage with no benefits. I must say the work is easy and I have a good time there. Which I think might not let me classify my job as a McJob. But I do what I have to do as said by my managers. I run the register, clean the floors, stock shelves, check inventory, and check in any incoming shipments. I basically do everything that needs to be done in the store. There are more than a few people who do the same thing I do and we are fine with that. Some jobs aren’t all too bad. Just some are worse than others.
